Renewal process
Before expiration, you should renew your driver’s license. Alberta licenses can expire after 1 to 5 years, depending on your license class and other conditions. Your driver’s license’s expiration date can be seen there.
Documents Required:
- Your current driver’s license. Copies are not accepted.
- A completed renewal form.
- You can also be required to provide a medical form if you are over 75 or have a class 1, 2, or 4 driver’s license.
Cost:
Renewal of an Alberta driver’s license costs $93.65 in total. This holds for all classes with a five-year renewal. An extra $7.00 will be charged if your driver’s license is from another province.
Conditions you must Follow:
- Your probationary driver’s license must be held for at least two years.
- At eight demerit points, your license will be suspended (15 for fully licensed drivers).
- Have no booze in you.
- To obtain a commercial driver’s license, you cannot upgrade.
- You are not permitted to drive beside a trainee driver.
- Your learner’s permit must be valid for at least a year.
- When driving, you must always have a fully licensed driver with you.
- Have no booze in you.
- Between midnight and five in the morning, driving is prohibited.
- You will lose your license if you receive eight demerit points (15 for fully licensed drivers).
